Altea: A Walk Through the Artists' Paradise on the Costa Blanca

Just 10 kilometres from Benidorm, Altea stands as a refuge of calm and creativity. This charming white village, perched on a hill overlooking the Mediterranean, has for decades been the favourite spot of painters, sculptors, musicians and dreamers. Its old town, with cobbled streets and whitewashed façades, is a work of art in itself.
🏛️ The old town: beauty around every corner
Walking up the narrow streets of Altea is like ascending a spiral of inspiration. The white houses, adorned with bougainvillea and wooden doors, line a maze that invites you to get lost. Every corner reveals a sea view, a hidden gallery or a craft shop where time seems to stand still.
At the top of the old town is Altea's architectural gem: the Church of Nuestra Señora del Consuelo, with its iconic blue and white glazed ceramic dome. This temple, visible from miles away, is the spiritual and visual heart of the village.
🖌️ A village that breathes art
Altea is not just pretty: it is deeply creative. Its streets are dotted with pottery workshops, painting studios, handmade jewellery shops and cultural spaces. Many artists have made Altea their home, drawn by the Mediterranean light and the bohemian atmosphere.
Exhibitions, concerts and art fairs are held throughout the year. In summer, the old town is transformed into a night market where local artisans display their works under lanterns and stars.
☕ Cafés with charm and sea views
After exploring, nothing beats sitting on a terrace overlooking the Mediterranean. From the top of the old town, the cafés and restaurants offer unforgettable panoramas: the blue of the sea, the silhouette of Serra Gelada and the horizon merging with the sky.
