Castell de l'Olla de Altea: Gunpowder Over the Mediterranean

Castell de l'Olla de Altea: Gunpowder Over the Mediterranean

Every August, Altea becomes the epicenter of one of the most beautiful and unique pyrotechnic shows in Spain: the Castell de l'Olla. It is not just a fireworks display, but a sensory experience that unites sea, light, sound and emotion in an unforgettable choreography.

🎇 What makes it unique?

Unlike other firework castles, the Castell de l'Olla is launched from floating platforms in the sea, in front of L'Olla beach. This allows the Mediterranean to act as a mirror, duplicating the spectacle in the sky and the water. The result is a magical atmosphere, where the audience feels enveloped by light and thunder.

🗓️ When and why

It is held on the Saturday closest to August 10, in honor of Sant Llorenç, patron saint of the area. It is the culmination of a week of cultural activities, concerts, neighborhood gatherings and gastronomic offerings. In 2025, the event will take place on August 9 at 11:55 PM.

🔥 History and legacy

The Castell was born in 1986 as a tribute to local pyrotechnician Blas Aznar, known as "Blai, el coeter". Since then, it has grown to become a Festival of Tourist Interest of the Valencian Community, organized by the Cofradía del Castell de l'Olla, a non-profit entity made up of volunteers.

🎭 More than fireworks

  • Artistic poster and literary proclamation: each edition is presented with a graphic work and a text that reinforce its cultural dimension.

  • Photography contest: awards the best images of the event, capturing its magic from land or sea.

  • Security device and violet points: guarantee a safe and respectful experience for all attendees.

👥 Massive attendance

More than 50,000 people gather each year on the beach, on boats or at nearby viewpoints to enjoy the show. The bay fills with lights, music and shared emotion.
