Amadorio Reservoir: The Closest Reservoir to the Sea in Spain

Just 4.2 km from the Mediterranean, the Amadorio Reservoir is a hidden jewel between mountains that supplies fresh water to the entire Marina Baixa region. Its proximity to the sea makes it the closest reservoir to the coast in all of Spain, and a perfect place to disconnect from the tourist bustle.
History and Curiosities
Construction: Began in 1947 and was inaugurated on 20 June 1957.
Dimensions: The dam is 63 metres high and 318 metres long.
Capacity: Up to 16 cubic hectometres of water.
Nature and Wildlife
The area around the reservoir is surrounded by Mediterranean vegetation. Wildlife includes herons, cormorants, eagles, kestrels, frogs, turtles, foxes, wild boar and squirrels.
Circular Route
A 16 km route circles the reservoir, ideal for walking or cycling. The path is firm, flat and without difficulty, with rest areas, tunnels, viewpoints and a small recreational area.
