Castle of Alfofra (Larforja), Confrides: History and Charm in the Heights

Castle of Alfofra, also known as Castle of Larforja, stands majestically on a steep hill at 1,100 meters altitude, making it the highest castle in the province of Alicante. Located in the municipality of Confrides, in the Marina Baixa region, this 13th-century Arab fortress offers a unique experience for history and hiking lovers.
Location and Access
Located on the Penya del Castellet, about 2 km from the town of Confrides.
Final access is on foot via a forest path, ideal for an easy family hike.
History
Of Muslim origin, the castle was conquered by James I in 1264 and donated to Vidal de Sarria.
It played a strategic role in communications between Alcoy and the coast, dominating the Guadalest valley.
It was the scene of conflicts during the expulsion of the Moors in 1609 and the War of Succession.
Current State
Although in ruins, you can still see sections of wall in Arab tapial, two cylindrical and one rectangular defensive tower, and a cistern.
