Albir Lighthouse: A Lighthouse between Cliffs and Legends

Albir Lighthouse: A Lighthouse between Cliffs and Legends

At the top of Punta Bombarda, within the Serra Gelada Nature Park, stands the Albir Lighthouse, a historical and natural jewel that has watched over the Mediterranean since 1863. This lighthouse not only guides sailors but also invites visitors to tour one of the most accessible and spectacular routes on the Costa Blanca.

Scenic Route

The route to the lighthouse starts at the nature park car park, just metres from Albir Beach. It is 2.5 km of paved path (5 km round trip), suitable for families, people with reduced mobility and even pushchairs. During the walk, you pass through tunnels, viewpoints and rest areas, all accompanied by the aroma of thyme and the sound of waves crashing against the cliffs.

Living History

The lighthouse was built in the 19th century and was inhabited by lighthouse keepers until the 1960s. Today it operates automatically and houses an Interpretation Centre, displaying old photographs, historical utensils and information panels on the area's biodiversity. Next to the lighthouse are the remains of the Bombarda Tower, a 16th-century defensive structure that protected the coast from pirate attacks.
